In 2017, nearly 60% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In November 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. In 2019, we expanded to Cote d'Ivoire. Now, we have millions of users and are growing fast. Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. And that's where you come in....
How you'll help us achieve it
We're looking for a risk manager who's resourceful and excited about getting things done. You'll be responsible for enabling the organization to take controlled risks, define, deploy and manage a risk management system and offer optimized processing solutions to inform management in their strategic decisions.
In this role, you'll:
- Develop and manage Wave's risk analysis and prioritization systems, including protection systems.
- Identify and evaluate risks (activities, processes, information systems, production tools, external events, etc.)
- Identify and assess risks
- Implement the risk management policy
- Assist in disseminating an adequate risk culture
- Proceed to periodic reporting on risk management
- Proceed to preventive and detective controls based on our risk profile
- Monitor internal mechanisms to report, investigate and escalate risk issues
- Anticipate changes in risk trends and their effects on the organization
- Other duties as assigned that the business may require.
- Fluent in English, French
- Minimum of 5 years experience in risk management or fraud
- A secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Business & Economics, or comparable field
- Experience working for an international company is an added advantage.
- This location of the role is in Dakar, with the possibility for intermittent travel throughout Senegal.
- Work authorization in Senegal required

- Have written and oral communication and presentation skills, including convincing and influencing a wide range of partners at all levels. Additional certification for fraud and compliance will be a plus.
