In 2017, nearly 60% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In November 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. In 2019, we expanded to Cote d'Ivoire. Now we have millions of users and are growing fast. Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. And that's where you come in...

How you'll help us achieve it
Our team has doubled over the past 6 months and we will continue to grow rapidly this year. We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Head of Talent who can scale our recruiting team and employer brand. You will inspire our team of top performers by setting a high standard on analytics, process design, experimentation, and story-telling.Responsibilities:
  • Manage and develop a team of global recruiters. We expect our recruiting team to more than double in the next 12 months and are looking for a strong leader who can motivate, coach, and inspire this already high performing team.
  • Drive authentic employer brand initiatives that educate candidates about Wave’s unique culture and exemplary employee experience.
  • Deepen our culture of experimentation, analytics, and learning on the recruiting team. Ensure that our ATS (Greenhouse) contains clean, consistent, and accurate data. Run experiments to understand how we can optimize every step in our pipeline.
  • Develop diverse pipeline strategies and be the thought leader on designing recruiting processes (such as structured interviewing, interviewer training, use of Metaview and other emerging tools) that result in a fair, inclusive, and exceptional candidate experiences.
  • Deeply understand and be an ambassador for our culture, values, and habits.
  • Partner with Wave’s team leads to design and build the teams they need to scale.
Key details
  • Remote position and can work remotely from anywhere (between UTC -8 and +4) with reliable Internet access. In addition to retreat travel (see below), we expect you to spend at least 6 weeks per year in our launch countries.
  • Our team meets in Senegal or Cote d’Ivoire every four months for retreats, which are one week in length. Wave covers all costs associated with travel.
  • Our salaries are competitive and are calculated using a transparent formula. For this role, we are offering a salary range of $119,900 - $176,900 depending on your level and location.
  • Subsidized health insurance for you and your dependents and retirement contributions (both vary from country-to-country)
  • 6 months fully paid parental leave and subsidized fertility assistance
  • Unlimited vacation with a 20-day minimum requirement
  • $10,000 annual charitable donation matching
  • Strong writer and story-teller who is fluent in English
  • Led a recruiting team of at least 15 people at a rapidly scaling, global company
  • Very strong communication and stakeholder management/relationship skills
  • Very strong analytical skills (understands how to build KPIs and can export and handle data in spreadsheets)
  • Willing to work hours that match a GMT timezone (to facilitate recruitments in Europe and Africa)
  • Optional - Built or contributed to building a strong employment brand
  • Optional - Fluent French speaker
  • Optional - Recruited engineers and product managers at a software company
  • Optional - In addition to recruiting experience, has some background in communications, marketing, product, design and/or brand (has run surveys)
  • Optional - In addition to recruiting experience, has some background in performance management or global compensation strategy
  • Optional - At least 5 years experience recruiting in Africa
