7.4 Restoring (or Transferring) keys to a different PC

This section explains how to restore or transfer keys to a different PC, or in the event of hard drive or TPM failure or simply a migration to a new machine. There are several items to keep in mind when performing these tasks:

  • Before restoring keys to a different PC or a PC with a different TPM, the destination TPM must be enabled and activated. Also, the TCG Software Stack (TSS) must be installed. Check the TPM or PC manufacturers' information for more details.
  • This version of Key Transfer Manager primarily supports restoring keys to a new TPM from the same TPM manufacturer as the original. Furthermore, the associated TCG Software Stack (TSS) should be the same version as the original. An upgrade to the TSS version may be accomplished after the restore
