  1. What is the Profile tab?

    The Private Information Manager Profile Tab stores personal profile information, including name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

    The information stored in the Profile is secured by the TPM hardware. This data is used by Private Information Manager to automatically fill web-based forms. Users may define multiple profiles in order to organize information by home, office, etc.

  2. Why won't PIM prompt me to save a new username and password?

    When enabled, PIM will attempt to automatically save the username and password for each website to which you login.

    PIM will almost always be successful in performing this function, but unfortunately, there are times that PIM will not successfully prompt to save a username and password.

    Problems in prompting are typically due to non-standard programming practices used by web designers.

    When this situation occurs, you can manually create an entry in PIM Favorites and fill in the appropriate login information for later reference.

  3. Every time I go to a website with any kind of form, PIM asks if I want to form fill, how do I make it stop?

    Right-click on the PIM Icon running in the System Tray; select settings at the top you will see form fill Options....

  4. What is Private Information Manager?

    Private Information Manager keeps private and sensitive information secure on the PC while keeping this information easily accessible.

    Private Information Manager makes managing passwords for PC applications and Internet surfing easier and safer.

  5. How does Private Information Manager secure information?

    Private Information Manager uses the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for enhanced security. Personal information stored by Private Information Manager is protected by secure hardware in the PC and cannot be viewed by others.

  6. How do I back up Private Information Manager?

    Private Information Manager creates a complete backup of data and the TPM keys necessary to access the data. Use the Backup tab available in Settings windows.

  7. How do I restore Private Information Manager?

    There are two scenarios for restoring data to Private Information Manager.

    The first scenario is when there is no Private Information Manager data and the application is not initialized. The second scenario is when existing Private Information Manager data will be overwritten with the data from backup.

    Method 1 - Private Information Manager is not initialized; no preexisting data:
    1. Start Private Information Manager.
    2. The First Time Setup Wizard will run, do not cancel this procedure.
    3. The first dialog box will ask about restoring from a backup. Select Yes and follow the remaining instructions.
    4. The user must enter the password for the archive before the restore will complete.
    Method 2 - Private Information Manager is initialized; there is preexisting data:
    1. Start Private Information Manager and login.
    2. Right-click on the System Tray icon and select Settings.
    3. Select the Backup tab and then select the Restore button. Follow the remaining instructions.
    4. The user must enter the password for the archive before the restore will complete.

    Note: that his process replaces the original data with the backup data, rendering the original data inaccessible.

  8. Why does PIM fill in some web forms correctly but not others?

    When enabled, PIM will attempt to fill all browser-based forms with the appropriate information from your profile.

    PIM will almost always be successful in performing this function, but unfortunately, there are times that PIM will not successfully fill a web form.

    Problems filling forms are typically due to non-standard programming practices used by some web designers.

  9. What is Form Fill?

    Private Information Manager Form Fill allows users to easily enter name, address and credit card information into web-based forms.

    Users can choose to set up Private Information Manager to automatically fill forms (Settings - Options - Web Form Fill Options) or

    they can use the Form Fill Tool to click and fill or drag and drop the information into website forms.

  10. Is EMBASSYŽ Trust Suite compatible with Vista?
    EMBASSY Trust Suite and Vista Compatibility

    Dell has released ETS "Lite" for Vista as version A14. This package includes Embassy Trust Suite, UPEK drivers, and the NTRU TSS. If your system shipped with a pre-installed copy of Embassy Trust Suite, you can obtain the Vista-compatible version from the Dell website.

    ETS Enterprise Security Dell Edition 3.x and Wave ETS 6.x fully support the Windows Vista OS.

    Previous versions of these products do not support the Windows Vista OS.

    Upgrading to a Vista-compatible version of ETS

    • If you purchased ETS Enterprise through Envoy Data or Dell, you will need to purchase a new license.
  11. How do I manage passwords in Private Information Manager?

    When using Private Information Manager, users will be prompted for a Password to login. The Password is used to access data that is protected by the PC's TPM.

    It is important that users do not forget the Password as they will not be able to access the Private Information Manager data without it.

    Users can configure ESC so that a single password (the user's Windows account password) or fingerprint biometric is used for all TPM-protected applications, including Private Information Manager.

  12. How do I activate Private Information Manager?

    Users should activate their Private Information Manager as soon as the installation is complete.

    Simply launch Private Information Manager and follow the prompts.

    In order to complete the activation, users will need the product activation code that was delivered with the product. User will only have to activate the product once and in the case where Private Information Manager is installed as part of the EMBASSY Trust Suite (ETS), this single activation will activate all of the ETS applications. If users do not activate the product within 10 days, the pre-activation period ends and users must activate to continuing using the product.

  13. What is the Wallet tab?

    The Wallet tab stores credit card data.

    The information stored in the Wallet is secured by the TPM hardware. This data is used by Private Information Manager to automatically fill web-based forms.

  14. How do I add a Credit Card into Private Information Manager?

    To add a Credit Card:

    1. Select the Add New button.
    2. Enter the appropriate credit card data.
    3. Enter a description of the credit card into the Credit Card Properties field (e.g., Personal Visa card or Work AMEX card).
    4. Once all of the data is entered, select the Save button to save the new entries.
  15. How do I edit a Credit Card in Private Information Manager?

    To edit a Credit Card:

    1. In the Available Cards window, select the card to edit.
    2. Select the Edit button.
    3. Make the appropriate changes to the desired fields.
    4. Select Save.
  16. How do I set a Default Credit Card in Private Information Manager?

    To Set the Default Credit Card:

    1. Right click on the PIM System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
    2. Click the Wallet tab
    3. One of the available cards in the credit card list can be specified as the default credit card. When completing a form, this will be the first card offered for the form fill operations.
    4. In the Available Cards window, select the card to make the default.
    5. Click the check box at the bottom of the Wallet tab labeled: Make this my default credit card.
  17. What is the Favorites tab?

    The Favorites tab stores all the username and password pairs associated with Favorite websites or programs on the user's PC.

    The information stored in Favorites is secured by the TPM hardware. This data is used by Private Information Manager to automatically fill login information for websites or programs that require the user to login.

    Users can also store favorites that do not have usernames and passwords. Private Information Manager allows users to store thousands of usernames and passwords.

  18. What is the Exclusions tab?

    It is common for web pages and programs to contain login information that users will not want Private Information Manager to auto-fill.

    Users can set Private Information Manager to Never prompt to save or fill information for these programs or websites. When a program or web page is set to Never auto-fill, it is added to the Exclusions tab.

    To re-enable a program or web page for auto-fill, simply remove the entry from the Exclusions tab. For managing the excluded favorites, the Exclusions tab provides many of the same functions as the Favorites tab. Refer to the Favorites tab for information.

  19. What is the Notes tab?

    The PIM Notes tab provides a convenient place for users to organize free-form data.

    Data stored in the Notes tab, like all data managed by Private Information Manager, is secured by the user's TPM.
